The I-pad Menu…

3 Jun

Old fashioned print menus…Make way for the touch screen revolution!

Great…just another way that the I-pad has impacted the world! The company is called “Conceptic” and since it introduced its I-pad menu it has found a great deal of success! The idea itself is great, you can order through the I-pad, see what the food looks like, you can even order accordingly with the weather, or better yet your mood! However I see no point in it because either way the server has to bring the food to you, its not like your order is gonna pop out of the screen Ah, wouldn’t that be awesome). Its just a fancy way to order and at the same time attract more customers into these restaurants. Apple fanatics would probably enjoy a restaurant with and I-pad menu and maybe even curious hungry guests, I myself however would not be more persuaded to dine at a restaurant like this only because of its new innovating menu rather the quality of the food, would you?

A New Reading Era

26 May

While the printing industry held a long and serious relationship with publishers, authors and readers alike, it must now pave way for the e Market and its reading material. It was not so long ago that we saw many passionate readers on the bus turning the pages of a printed book, but all that began to change when the nation saw the introduction of eBook readers including but not limited to the nook,         iPad and so on. While many people believe things can be done and should be done the same way because that is how it has always been done, will come to see that the world is constantly changing and that eBooks sales now exceed the sales of actual printed books (on amazon). Not only that, many authors have also come to understand that this is a new era and have began to adjust to our changing times. Authors of  books like Rich Dad Poor Dad and The Lost Memoirs of Casanova have began to “sign” their eBooks through their website. Yes, this new way of book signing may take the fun out of meeting an author but its the “new” thing and many readers have already grown accustomed to it. The new reading era is barely beginning, so we have to wait and see if the momentum will lean more towards the eMarket industry or the printing industry. What side will you guys prefer?

Waste of taxpayer $$ -_-

19 May

It has come to my attention that a man from Michigan (Leroy Fick, 59) won 2 million dollars in a state lottery game and still “qualifies” for food stamps. Read the story http://news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_localdtw/20110518/ts_yblog_localdtw/2m-michigan-lottery-winner-defends-use-of-food-stamps

All while many students in college/universities do not qualify for any financial aid at all and not to mention all the budget cuts there have been on education so far. This article really bugged me, it seems that this man still claims food stamps for his groceries even though he has a ton of money in the bank…and worst the state’s dept. of HR can’t do anything about it because lottery winnings are considered liquid assets and not income. Seriously doesn’t it seem more logical to spend taxpayer money on education rather than on some greedy person like this? I don’t know if I am making too much of a big deal but it just doesn’t seem right to me. I mean I’ve been kicked out of a cal state for lack of money and financial aid. What has the U.S. come to??? Students what do you think?

Smart sales/Ads…for this season

13 May

Summer time is here and many people spent time at the beach on their free time. A new bikini anyone? Or perhaps some new swim shorts for the guys? Being that the season is just beginning it is probably more convenient for stores to raise prices for swim wear right? Not for the store I stumbled upon. This store is having a super sale! (at least in my opinion) Shorts for guys as low as 9.99 and bikini tops and bottoms 7.99 each! Their advertisements play a huge role, after all this is how I came across the “super sale.” On their ads you will find beautiful beach settings with young attractive guys and gals. Next to them you cannot help but notice the huge 70% off sign in red letters. Ads are simply ingenious! They are created in a way that consumers cant help but to become “blinded”. Not to mention that they can be found anywhere they can be sent to your email, you can see them on facebook, on billboards, bus benches, etc.  They are simply essential for any business. It seems to me that this store is going to have amazing profit coming in this season due to their “super sale.”

A little Comedy is always more interesting

5 May

This morning, while on my way to school I noticed a Santa Monica Daily Press newspaper on the bench where I wait for the Big Blue Bus #8. I have to say, it is not typical of me to pick up a random abandoned newspaper but this one had an advertisement on it that caught my eye. An ad for “Seamus D. McDonald, Your one stop shop for all your insurance needs.” While the quote was pretty meaningless to me the autograph of Mr. McDonald filled me with curiosity. ” Is that really his hair?” I thought to myself. The man at first glance looks to be white, a light completion, light blue colored eyes, but his hair! Thick, dark, curly locks! “How curious!” I thought. As I read further through the ad I noticed another quote that reads, ” Insurance Pro with the Fro!” Certainly he himself has taken advantage of his “different” hair and used it to his advantage on his ad, and it works! I believe that just because of the comical approach on Mr. McDonalds ad many people have thought twice about switching to him or atleast getting a quote from him, I sure would if I had the money to afford insurance right now. For any ad where a little comedy would appropiatly fit in, it’s definatly more powerful towards the audience to add a few “aha” moments. Seamus D. The customer is NOT always right…

28 Apr

It seems as if it’s the rule in customer service (The customer is always right)…but are they really always right? No. As I was surfing the web for this weeks’ blog topic I came across a very interesting article on finance.yahoo. The article is basically about the people on the other side of the story, customer service reps., cashiers, waiters, etc. This article is aimed to customers themselves. It also ironically gives tips on how to be less annoying to the person trying to help the customer. Being that I am a customer service rep. myself, I share a huge connection to it. I have to admit that it is actually nice to have such a mainstream website publicize this kind of article. It’s like a little sigh of relief to read about someone else who agrees with something I’ve personally had to deal with for about 2 and a half years. I won’t give the article away but the first and most important tip in the article towards the customer is about “cell phone usage.” Not trying to be mean or anything but please just out of plain courtesy put away your cell phones while dealing with a return at a retail store, or giving a fast food order, or for asking a simple question…it is quite rude. Being that Yahoo is such a known website I am sure the article will come around to many readers, which in turn be customers themselves (aren’t we all?) or waiters, cashiers, etc. surely many people will share some kind of bond with it as I did. check out the article =] http://finance.yahoo.com/family-home/article/112553/when-customer-is-wrong-airlines-mainstreet?mod=family-travel

Behind the wheel test.

21 Apr

Oh the nerves! Remember when you took your behind the wheel test? Good ole’ memories right? It’s the point in life where you want and need that freedom to move around independently. It’s a big and important step in life, in fact here in California it’s considered a privilege. So how was your first driving test? Did you practice enough and better yet did you pass your first try? Well, recently I’ve been looking more closely at the subject and figured that there is more support out there than I thought. Before I thought all these test were like some secret that you couldn’t find out until you entered the DMV but I was wrong. There’s a lot of help out there even for the written test you can take as many pre-tests as you like on the DMV’s website as well as reading the driver handbook of course. For drivers tests other than your permit and own practice the DMV has produced clips of the most common mistakes drivers make and these videos can be seen on You-Tube. This kind of media is available to any one and it makes one obtain a license much faster and easier. It seems that in this day in age the media helps in so many different ways. Media helps to get messages out there in an efficient and very accessible way for everyone. Now even drivers tests are easier for that matter because of all the tips and helpful methods out on print or the internet.
